Vacancy for Senior Level Position - Deputy Director (PDMSD)

VACANCY FOR SENIOR LEVEL POSITION IN THE PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND MUNICIPAL SERVICES DIRECTORATE (PDMSD)

 

The University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following vacant position in the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD). 

POSITION:                         Deputy Director (Physical Planning and Development Division)

REPORTING TO:             Director, PDMSD 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The successful candidate will support the Director of PDMSD to ensure that the mandate of PDMSD is fulfilled and assist the Director to put in place and implement mechanisms that will ensure that the core functions of PDMSD are delivered. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Deputy Director, Physical Planning and Development Division is responsible for providing professional services necessary for coordinating construction-related activities, providing information and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

 

The Deputy Director shall specifically have the responsibility to:

a)    Develop specifications for all construction projects;

b)    Prepare annual capital construction/improvement plans for budgeting;

c)    Co-ordinate capital construction activities;

d)    Recommend policies and/or procedures and actions on issues that relate to construction projects; 

e)    Evaluate potential sites and/or conditions of existing locations for the purpose of determining that they meet all project needs and specifications;

f)     Serve as Divisional representative on statutory and ad hoc committees to receive and/or convey information related to assigned projects and activities;

g)    Coordinate the resources of the Physical Planning and Development Division to fulfill the Directorate’s mandate; and, 

h)    Perform any other functions as may be determined by the Director.

 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

a)         Post-Graduate Diploma/Masters in Architecture;

Member of Ghana Institute of Architects; and,

A minimum of 12 years progressively responsible post-qualification experience. 

 

Or

 

Masters in the Built Environment;

Member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (Quantity Surveying); and,

A minimum of 12 years progressively responsible post-qualification experience.

 

Or

 

Masters in Civil/Structural Engineering;

Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers; and,

A minimum of 12 years progressively responsible post-qualification experience.

b)        Knowledge and application of IT software relevant to the profession is an advantage.

c)         Experience in working collaboratively to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

d)        Strong managerial skills especially in project management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 

The ideal candidate must be:

 

a)             Results-oriented and have the ability to set and achieve targets;

b)             Able to provide strong leadership and to influence others to obtain required results;

c)             An excellent team player with considerable strategic, interpersonal and collegial skills that will enable him/her to function within the Higher Education Sector.

d)             A person who has a good business sense with a deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational issues in top-level University management and administration.

e)             A Business-minded person with demonstrable evidence of creativity;

f)              A person with high-level analytical skills and demonstrable evidence of competence and leadership.

g)             A person with very strong verbal and communication skills; and,

h)             Able to demonstrate a very high level of professionalism and flexibility.
