Vacancy for Senior Level Administrative Positions College of Health Sciences

The University of Ghana hereby, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the senior level administrative positions in the College of Health Sciences listed below, to take effect from 1st August, 2021.

Objectives of the College of Health Sciences: The College shall advance the objectives of each of its constituent Units by these specific objectives, to:

(a)    Promote health through education, research and service;

(b)    Provide promotive, preventive and curative services to meet the health needs of the nation and the global community through world class excellence in teaching, research and dissemination of knowledge;

(c)    Produce highly qualified and competent health professionals and medical scientists; and,

(d)    Promote development of sustainable health programmes.

POSITION 1:           Dean, University of Ghana Dental School

REPORTING TO:      Provost, College of Health Sciences

The University of Ghana Dental School is made up of the following departments:

  • Department of Oral Pathology and Medicine
  • Department of Biomaterial Sciences
  • Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Department of Oral Biology
  • Department of Restorative Dentistry
  • Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry
  • Department of Orthodontics and Pedodontics

POSITION 2:           Director, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research

REPORTING TO:      Provost, College of Health Sciences

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research is made up of the following constituent units:

  • Department of Animal Experimentation
  • Department of Bacteriology
  • Department of Clinical Pathology
  • Department of Electron Microscopy
  • Department of Epidemiology
  • Department of Immunology
  • Department of Nutrition
  • Department of Parasitology
  • Department of Virology

The successful candidate must:
(a)    be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.

(b)    be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.

(c)    provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School/Institute.

(d)    demonstrate the capacity to attract funding for research and development.

(e)    have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School/Institute.

A Dean/Director is responsible for providing leadership to the School/Institute and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order per the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the School/Institute Management Committee.

The Dean/Director is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School/Institute are duly carried out by members of the School/Institute.

The Dean/Director is also responsible for the general administration of the School/Institute in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

The Dean/Director shall hold office for a period of three years and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.
