Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following positions in the Department of Earth Science under the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, University of Ghana.

 

1. LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN HYDROLOGY WITH EXPERTISE IN HYDROLOGIC AND HYDRAULIC MODELING

 

The preferred candidate must:

· Have a BSc in the Earth Sciences or related discipline and a PhD in Hydrology or Hydrological Science or related field with strong expertise in hydrologic modelling, from a reputable University;

· Demonstrate capacity to establish and lead a vibrant research team to win grants for cutting-edge research.

· Demonstrate capacity to develop national and international collaborations to support graduate level research and teaching across disciplines.

· Exhibit capacity to work in a team and promote the development of Hydrology through grantsmanship and cutting-edge research.

For the position of Senior Lecturer, the candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience and should have published at least 10 papers in reputable journals. In either case of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, preferred candidates should not exceed 45 years of age by August 1, 2020.

 

2. LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ENGINEERING GEOLOGY

Candidate for the position of a Lecturer in Engineering Geology must:

· Have a BSc in Earth Science or related discipline, and a PhD in Engineering Geology or related specialization.

· Demonstrate capacity to develop a vibrant research team to attract grants for cutting edge research and students’ training.

· Not exceed 45 years of age by August 1, 2020.

For the positon of Senior Lecturer, in addition to the requirements stated above, the individual should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in an academic or research institution with at least 10 publications in reputable scientific journals (preferably scopus indexed journals) of significant global impact. Such outlets should be indexed in scopus.

 

3. LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER POSITION IN PALEONTOLOGY

Candidate for the position of lecturer must:

· Have a BSc degree in Geology or Earth Science or related discipline, and a PhD in Invertebrate Palaeontology, Micropaleontology and or Palynology or related specialization.

· Demonstrate capacity to establish and lead a vibrant research team to develop proposals and win grants for cutting edge research and training of students, especially graduate students.

 

For the position of Senior Lecturer, in addition to the requirements stated above, the individual should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in an academic or research institution with at least 10 publications in reputable scientific journals of significant global impact. Candidates for the positions stated should not exceed 45 years of age by August 1, 2020.

 

4. LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN GEOPHYSICS

The Department of Earth Science, University of Ghana seeks applications for the position of a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Geophysics. The candidate must:

· Have a BSc in Geology, Earth Science or related field and a PhD in Geophysics from a reputable University with at least 3 years of post-PhD experience in industry or academia.

· Demonstrate capacity to develop projects and attract research grants and train graduate students in the field of Geophysics.

· Demonstrate capacity to promote his/her field through publications in reputable journals of significant impact factors.

For the position of Senior Lecturer, in addition to the requirements stated above, the individual should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in an academic or research institution with at least 10 publications in reputable scientific journals of significant global impact. Candidates for the positions stated should not exceed 45 years of age by August 1, 2020.

 

5. LECTURERS/SENIOR LECTURERS/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR IN CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry under the College of Basic and Applied Sciences requires for immediate employment, suitably qualified candidates as Lecturers in the following areas:

· Physical Chemistry

· Environmental/Analytical Chemistry

· Inorganic Chemistry

Suitably qualified persons will be required to conduct teaching, research, and extension services and promote their respective areas of specialization. They will be expected to participate in all departmental activities and conduct cutting-edge research with active involvement of students at all levels.

Basic Qualification Required and Experience:

· Must possess a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with relevant research in the stated areas of specialization.

· University teaching experience and research would be an added advantage.

· Priority would be placed on candidates who have the capacity to conduct research and win grants to develop their areas of specialization, and candidates who have been recognized internationally on account of research carried out in their area of specialization.

 

6. LECTURERS/SENIOR LECTURERS IN MATHEMATICS

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for Senior Lecturer/Lecturer positions in the following areas:

· Algebra

· Stochastic Calculus

· Financial Mathematics

· Data Science

· Mathematical Modelling

· Analysis of PDEs

· Harmonic Analysis and its applications

· Machine Learning.

The suitably qualified persons in each category will be required to teach, research, and conduct extension services to promote their disciplines. They will be required to develop their areas of specialization by engaging in research fund raising to support students and mobilize equipment for research in their areas of specialization. They will be required to participate in all departmental activities at all times.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· A PhD degree in Mathematics with specialization in any of the above listed areas

· A good record of teaching experience;

· Good communication and presentation skills;

· Ability to foster and promote teamwork.

For appointment as Senior Lecturer, the candidate should have at least three (3) years of relevant experience with a minimum of 10 peer reviewed articles in credible (scopus indexed) journals of significant global impact. Applications for Senior Lecturer position will be externally assessed before a decision is made on appointment or otherwise.

 

7. LECTURERS/SENIOR LECTURERS/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR IN PHYSICS

The Department of Physics seeks applications from suitably qualified persons for faculty appointments in the following areas of specialization:

· Geophysics

· Astrophysics

Suitably qualified persons may be appointed at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor depending on the level of experience. The appointed individuals will be expected to promote their areas through teaching, research, and extension services. They will be required to participate in all departmental activities at all times and be available to supervise students at all levels (undergraduate and graduate levels).

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR A LECTURER IN GEOPHYSICS

· BSc in Physics or Geophysics from a reputable University;

· PhD in Geophysics

· Experience in teaching Geophysics at undergraduate and/or graduate levels

· Experience in developing undergraduate and graduate programs Geophysics at an accredited University or equivalent tertiary institution.

· Ability to undertake research in Geophysics.

· Computing skills, especially in at least one of R or MATLAB.

· Experience in preparing documents using LateX

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR A LECTURER IN ASTROPHYSICS

· BSc in Physics or Astrophysics from a reputable University;

· PhD in Astrophysics

· Experience in teaching Astrophysics at undergraduate and/or graduate levels

· Experience in developing undergraduate and graduate programs Astrophysics at an accredited University or equivalent tertiary institution.

· Ability to undertake research in Astrophysics.

· Computing skills, especially in at least one of R or MATLAB.

· Experience in preparing documents using LateX

 

APPOINTMENT AS SENIOR LECTURER

In addition to the above, individuals seeking appointment as Senior Lecturers should have at least three (3) years of relevant experience in teaching in a similar capacity in a reputable institution and should have published at least 10 articles in reputable international journals (preferably scopus indexed journals).

 

APPOINTMENT AS ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Candidates seeking appointments as Associate Professors should have at least 8 years of relevant experience in a similar setting and should have published at least 18 articles in reputable peer review journals (preferably scopus indexed journals). They should have demonstrated experience in winning research grants and proven record of student supervision at the PhD level. Suitably qualified persons should be well cited by their peers in the international community and should be very visible.

 

APPOINTMENT AS PROFESSOR

Candidates seeking appointments as Associate Professors should have at least 12 years of relevant experience in a similar setting and should have published at least 32 articles in reputable peer review journals (preferably scopus indexed journals). They should have demonstrated experience in winning research grants and proven record of student supervision at the PhD level. Suitably qualified persons should be well cited by their peers in the international community and should be very visible.

 

8. PROFESSOR/ ASSOC. PROFESSOR/ SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER POSITION IN STATISTICS AND ACTUARIAL SCIENCE

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science offers both undergraduate and postgraduate training in Statistics and Actuarial Science. Faculty members of the Department are also actively engaged in research and consulting in these fields. In addition, faculty members serve the university in other administrative positions such as course advising, unit heads, examination supervision, etc.

The department has vacancies for Professor/ Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer/Lecturer positions in Statistics and/or Actuarial Science. Appointed individuals will be required to:

· Teach and develop undergraduate as well as graduate courses in either Statistics or Actuarial Science

· Participate and play a leading role in the Department’s research activities in either Statistics or Actuarial Science

· Supervise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels

· Assist with the Department's liaison with industry.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· At least a PhD degree in the Statistics or Actuarial Science.

· Professional qualification in the case of Actuarial Science

· Ability to teach Statistics or Actuarial Science at under- and post-graduate level.

· Ability to develop under- and post-graduate modules in Statistics or Actuarial Science.

· Must have teaching experience at postgraduate level.

· Computing skills, especially in at least one of R, SAS, Python or MATLAB.

 

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

PROFESSOR

The candidate must:

· Possess a PhD with specialisation in Statistics and/or Actuarial Science;

· Have at least 12 years teaching experience in the relevant areas of specialisation in a reputable tertiary institution;

· Have published at least 32 articles in reputable peer review journals (preferably scopus indexed journals) of significant global impact;

· Be very visible amongst his/her peers at the international stage;

· Demonstrate research leadership with evidence of fund raising to support cutting edge research and equipment mobilization;

· Have a strong research background and professional experience;

· Demonstrate experience and commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels

· Demonstrate experience in student supervision especially at the PhD level.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

The candidate must:

· Possess a PhD with specialisation in Statistics and/or Actuarial Science;

· Have at least 8 years teaching experience in the relevant areas of specialisation in a reputable tertiary institution;

· Have published at least 18 articles in reputable peer review journals (preferably scopus indexed journals) of significant global impact;

· Be very visible amongst his/her peers at the international stage;

· Demonstrate research leadership with evidence of fund raising to support cutting edge research and equipment mobilization;

· Have a strong research background and professional experience;

· Demonstrate experience and commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels

· Demonstrate experience in student supervision especially at the PhD level.

SENIOR LECTURER

The candidate must:

· Possess a PhD with specialisation in Statistics and/or Actuarial Science;

· Have at least 3 years teaching experience in the relevant areas of specialisation in a reputable tertiary institution;

· Have published at least 10 articles in reputable peer review journals (preferably scopus indexed journals) of significant global impact;

· Be very visible amongst his/her peers at the international stage;

· Demonstrate research leadership with evidence of fund raising to support cutting edge research and equipment mobilization;

· Have a strong research background and professional experience;

· Demonstrate experience and commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels

· Demonstrate experience in student supervision especially at the PhD level.

LECTURER

The candidate must:

· Possess a PhD with specialisation in Statistics and/or Actuarial Science;

· Have some professional experience in the specific area;

· Have demonstrated potential and interest to conduct research and to excel in teaching; and

· Have a commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
