Brief Profile about UGESSA



The University of Ghana Earth Science Students Association (UGESSA) is a union of students under the College of Basic and Applied Science offering courses in the earth sciences. The prospects associated with the courses make it more attractive to students from other fields like oceanography, geography, physical and mathematical sciences, to mention but a few. It currently has about 350 students and many admirers who are keen to use souvenirs customized in the colors of the University of Ghana.

UGESSA organizes seminars and symposia which help to improve the knowledge base of the students. Moreover, as part of community service, we periodically embark on community sensitization programs to educate the ordinary Ghanaian on Geo Hazards and their effects on human lives.

UGESSA is made up of the students of the Department of Earth Science. The association has realized the importance of the study of the earth science and its related sciences to the development of Ghana. As a result of this we have combined our efforts towards promoting interest in this field of study through workshops, seminars and also field trips to various relevant organizations.



MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Association include;

  • To promote and seek the welfare of students in the Association.
  • To create interest in the study of Earth Science and encourage Ghanaian and International students to take it up by giving them every possible help.
  • To inform students about the latest techniques and developments in the earth sciences.
  • To contribute to the natural environmental sustenance and protection by way of education.

UGESSA organizes series of programs during its annual week celebration which takes place during the academic year. The programs, include but are not limited to;

-Socialization and Networking Day (Day with the Lecturers)

-A career and job fair

-Health day and blood donation.

-An educational outreach program
