COMS 624: INDIGENOUS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

Credits:
2

Often, communication is interpreted in terms of sophisticated technology. This course examines with students the various types, forms and modes of communication that indigenously reside within relatively “traditional” communities. Interpersonal communication as the root of all communication is stressed especially as it relates to multimedia and convergence approaches to effective applications of mass technologically mediated communication. Models of integration such as diachronic, synchronic and “indigenisation” of the “traditional” ICS and the technology-based communication systems for more effective communication are examined.
