Call for application for faculty positions in communication studies

The Department of Communication Studies of the University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointment as Lecturer in Multimedia Journalism; Quantitative Research Methods in Communication Studies; Public and Policy Communication.

 Successful applicants for multimedia journalism should be grounded in both theory and practice and be ready to teach courses that prepare students to work in converged newsrooms serving multimedia platforms. We are especially interested in candidates with a background in print, broadcast and online journalism.

 The successful applicant for the quantitative research methods in communication studies position should be strong in the application of statistical tools for analyzing communication phenomena. S/he should have also the competency to teach graduate students to conduct a wide range of   research analysis, including structural equation modelling, multi-level analysis, moderation analysis and mediation analysis.

 Faculty for public and policy communication will be expected to demonstrate a good understanding of the centrality of communication in policy formulation and implementation within the civil and public services and be familiar with the processes (both formal and informal) involved in global, regional and national policy making. Practical experience in policy communication will be a plus. 

All applicants will be expected to have relevant skills to teach other communication studies courses, including communication theories and models, and ethics. Successful candidates will also be expected, in accordance with University of Ghana standards, to engage in high quality research on any area of interest within communication studies.

Requirements: Applicants should have the following:
• Ph.D. in communication studies or a related field as of July 1, 2020.
• A readiness to assume duty latest by 31st December 2020.
• An established record or high potential of solid scholarly research.
• A commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate studies level
• Readiness to stay in Ghana for the period of the contract

Remuneration
The salary and conditions of service for the position are similar to what pertains in Ghanaian Public Universities.

The Department of Communication Studies exists within the Collage of Education of the University. It started in 1972 and has since trained over 1000 students who have distinguished themselves locally and internationally in government, private sector, diplomatic sector and development agencies. It offers three graduate degree programmes – Master of Arts in Communication Studies, Master of Philosophy in Communication Studies and Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Studies.
