A historic vote on Sunday 19th June 2022, saw the Andean country pick its first leftist president - Colombian President Gustavo Petro and his running mate Francia Márquez, of the Alternative Democratic Pole.

Francia Marquez is 40 years old, a lawyer, a human rights Activist, an environmental campaigner, and, will be Colombia's first black woman Vice President. She is the first black Colombian to have risen this high in the country and is still rising.
Since age 13, Vice President Francia Márquez has been fighting for the rights of Afro- Colombians, a people that make up 10% of the Colombian population of about 50 million people.
Francia Marquez went from teenage activist to ‘Green Nobel’. She pledges a ‘government of the people with calloused hands’.
