THE EMBASSY OF MEXICO IN GHANA DONATES BOOKS TO THE CENTRE FOR LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES, UG

The Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, H. E. Enriquez Escorza has donated a set of books to the Centre for Latin American Studies, University of Ghana (CLAS-UG).



H.E. Enrique Escorza presented a collection of books on different subjects and genres to the Director of the Centre, Dr. Joanna Boampong at a brief ceremony held at the Casa Hispánica VAO Lamptey Hall, in the Reginald Amonoo Building, University of Ghana. He indicated that, the donation comprised books from different disciplines and genres and are meant to provide readers the opportunity to have a holistic picture of his country and the Latin American region. H.E. Escorza remarked that the donation of books is one of the many ways that the Embassy of Mexico and the Mexican Community in Ghana is willing to support the work of CLAS-UG.  He added, “the Embassy will always be at the beck and call of the Centre and the Department of Modern Languages, UG”.

The Director of the Centre for Latin American Studies, UG, Dr. Joanna Boampong, thanked H.E. Escorza and the Mexican community for the generous donation.  She indicated that the collection would help immensely in building the Centre’s library and information base. Additionally, she underscored the importance of the books to the Centre’s efforts to create more awareness, in Ghana and the sub-region, on Latin America.  She was especially happy that in covering different subject areas, the books would help foster interdisciplinarity in the College of Humanities and other units of UG.   

Present at the donation ceremony were both Senior and Junior members of the University, including, the Director of the Chinese Confucius Institute, the Coordinators for Russian and Chinese, Lecturers, Teaching Assistants, Staff and Students of the Departments of Modern Languages and French.
