DIRECTOR OF THE CENTRE FOR LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES, UG HONORED BY THE EMBASSY OF MEXICO IN GHANA

The Embassy of Mexico in Ghana has awarded a plaque of recognition to Dr. Joanna Boampong, the Director of the Centre for Latin American Studies at UG (CLAS-UG). The Mexican Ambassador to Ghana, HE Enrique Escorza made the presentation at a ceremony which took place on 8th December,

2021, at the Casa Hispánica V.A.O. Lamptey Conference Hall.



 

Presenting the award, HE Escorza explained that the plaque was designed to commemorate sixty years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Ghana and is one of ten awarded to deserving Ghanaians who have contributed immensely to strengthening the relationship between the two countries. The plaque, with patterns of the Mexican Huichol and the Ghanaian Kente combines the number 60 with the infinity symbol and represents 60 years of unending relations between the two countries. On behalf of his government, he commended the founding Director of CLAS-UG, Dr. Joanna Boampong, for her unflinching efforts to ensure a thriving relationship between Ghana and his country. He indicated that other recipients of the honorary plaque, include the President of the Republic of Ghana, H. E. Nana Akuffo-Addo Addo Dankwa, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and entities that have been instrumental  in building the bond between both countries.  





Dr. Joanna Boampong, the Director of the Centre for Latin American Studies-UG, expressed profound gratitude to the Embassy of Mexico and the Mexican government, for the award. She acknowledged the immense support she and the Centre have received from the Embassy of Mexico since the Centre’s inception, and as it works towards its goal of creating more awareness and promoting greater interaction between the two countries. She expressed the hope for continued and even deeper collaborations in the years ahead.
