The Centre for Ageing Studies Organizes Sim Card Registration Exercise for Older Persons

The Centre for Ageing Studies organized a SIM card registration exercise primarily for older persons at the Centre’s premises from 7th March, 2022 to 10th March, 2022. The impetus for putting together such an event was to assist older persons to register their SIM cards so as to overcome the challenges and difficulties they encounter in the on-going registration exercise. It would be distressing for older persons to lose their SIM cards due to blockage for non-registration. While the target population for this activity were older persons, several individuals below the ages of 60 years also visited the Centre’s premises to have their cards registered. Vodafone and MTN were the telecommunication network providers that offered to support the Centre to carry out this initiative, hence, their registration personnel were able to assist only persons who had either MTN or Vodafone SIM cards to complete the registration process.

The four-day activity attracted patronage from over 300 individuals. For each day, the registration exercise started at 10:00 am and ended at 4:00 pm. Throughout the registration process, the officials ensured that they attended to older persons first before the others as the activity was primarily organized for them.
