Brief Description of Project Objectives and Achievements : The project aimed to support the efforts in the conservation and management of wetlands, water catchments, flood plains and forests to enhance the availability and provision of safe drinking water for all Ghanaians. The project had two main outputs:

  1. Improved capacity in Ghana for Integrated Water Resources Management and
  2. Promotion of best practices for water resource management and conservation to enhance water availability in the country.

To achieve the above mentioned outputs, the project carried out a survey of key issues impacting on the management of wetlands and water resources and identified training needs for personnel in the water sector. A short courses on integrated water resource management was conducted for participants drawn from institutions with responsibilities for managing water resources including NGOs, as well as technical personnel in selected District Assemblies within major river catchments that provides the main source  of water supply to the cities of Accra, Cape Coast, Kumasi and Sekondi-Takoradi. Three M. Phill students were supported financially to carry out research on various aspects of wetlands and water resource management.
