CAS is proud to announce the setting up in close collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA), the JICA Chair for Japanese Studies. The JICA Chair was launched at the University of Ghana on March 16, 2023.

This JICA Chair launch involved a series of events hosted by CAS on March, 16, 2023 made up of three sessions.Session 1 and 3 provided opportunities for hearing from Ghanaians who had studied in Japan and exposure to Japan Scholarship opportunities. The Chair will encompass a comprehensive Programme on Japanese Studies covering among other things the following :

1. short intensive lectures involving the short-term dispatch of Japanese lecturers and the provision of relevant reference materials for Japanese studies. (politics, economics, business, society and culture, literature/arts, history, etc.).

2. conducting joint research activities, and

3. providing research and education opportunities in Japan for young researchers (for academic degrees or on sabbatical).

4. Japanese affairs will also be introduced along with Japanese language classes in collaboration with JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and others.

The Centre for Asian Studies was established following a decision by the Council of the University of Ghana in October, 2015 and begun formal operations on August 1, 2016.
