Training: Ph.D- Biochemical Toxicology, University of Surrey, UK.
Post-doctoral- Advanced Research Experience in Biochemical Toxicology, National Cancer Institute, Developmental Therapeutics Program, Division of Cancer Treatment, NIH, Bethesda, USA.
Approaches to Research:
Pre-clinical studies
Preparation of crude extracts and organic fractions as well as isolation, purification and structural elucidation of biologically active chemical entities from selected organic fractions will be common to all plants/diseases.
Studies on the determination of biological/pharmacological activity of extract and fractions, mechanism of action and molecular targets of selected chemical entities will depend on plant/disease of interest.
In vitro cytotoxicity of crude extract, selected fractions and chemical entities, as well as safety evaluation of selected chemical entities in vivo in laboratory animals will be common to all plants/diseases.
Pharmacokinetic, dose-response and drug interaction studies will be conducted with selective active chemical entities in rodents and/or dogs, which will be common to all plants/diseases.
Selected chemical entities may be modified to produce more active counterparts, which will be tested as for points 2-4.
Clinical Studies
Phases 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be conducted with selected chemical entity and its more active modified entity.
