PROVOST’S PUBLICATION AWARDS IN THE HUMANITIES

The Provost of the College of Humanities invites all Faculty and Doctoral Students within the College to submit entries for the 2022 Provost’s Publication Awards. The Awards form part of efforts to strengthen and support research culture within the College of Humanities, while providing opportunity for doctoral students and researchers to showcase their work.

 

Categories of Awards for the 2022 Awards

1. Publication Awards Categories

  1. Early-Career Best Published Work: 2 Awards
  2. Mid-Career Best Published Work: 2 Awards
  3. Late-Career Best Published Work: 2 Awards

 

2. Overall Best Researcher

 

3. Doctoral Students’ Awards Categories

  1. PhD Year Two – 2 Awards
  2. PhD Year Three – 2 Awards
  3. PhD Year Four – 2 Awards

 

Eligibility Criteria

Early-Career Best Published Work: Lecturers/Research Fellows affiliated with any unit of the College of Humanities, who have been in the service of the University of Ghana, Legon, for not more than five years prior to the date of submission of the application.

 

Mid-Career Best Published Work: Senior Lecturers/Senior Research Fellows/Associate Professors in the College of Humanities who have been in the service of the University of Ghana for a total of not more than ten years.

 

Late-Career Best Published Work: Professors/Associate Professors in the College of Humanities who have been in the service of the University of Ghana for not more than 15 years.

 

Overall Best Researcher:

a) Open to all categories of Faculty

b) This would be based upon a distinguished record in research, publication or creative works.

 

Doctoral Students’ Awards Categories: Registered PhD candidates within the College of Humanities, University of Ghana, recognized prior to the date of application submission.

 

The Quality of submissions of scholarly works or research for the awards will be assessed based on:

i. Methodological rigour

ii. Innovations / creativity in a discipline/disciplinary breakthrough

iii. Potential impact on national development/policy

iv. Funding potential

 

 

Application Information

  1. Applicants should choose one publication only to submit for an award category.
  2. Either sole authored or co-authored publications (with applicant being the lead author) are eligible.
  3. Only works published from 2020 to date are eligible for submission.
  4. Acceptable publication formats include, scholarly book, research work, monograph, journal article, fiction, poetry, or publicly performed creative works including theatrical play, musical composition, and choreographed dance production.
  5. Doctoral candidates are to submit copies of their transcripts; and any published work or accepted work in queue for publication (if applicable). For accepted work, kindly provide evidence/letter of acceptance for the publication.

 

All materials submitted for assessment should be provided in triplicate (as hard copy) in photocopy or offprint form—materials once submitted will not be returned to the applicant. The application package should include a cover letter and a single page truncated version of the applicant’s curriculum vitae including current contact details.
