Research

  • Sustainable food production through irrigated intensive farming systems in West Africa (SIFA).

This was a collaborative research involving four departments of University of Ghana, (Departments of Agricultural Engineering, Crop Science, Soil Science and the Ecological Laboratory), Copenhagen University and Aarhus University both in Denmark under the sponsorship of DANIDA.

  • Green Cohesive Agricultural Resource Management (WEBSOC).

A multidisciplinary research project involving six partner institutions aimed at promoting growth and employment through research on green, cohesive Water, Energy-from-Biomass, Soil, Organics, and Crop (WEBSOC) agricultural management strategies in Ghana, as present agricultural development depends on deforestation and show little or no increase in productivity per unit of land.

  • Building Vegetable Farmers Resilience to Climate Change.

This project will enhance the resilience towards increasing temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns in smallholder vegetable farming communities through the use of oil palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) as an organic mulch, identification of climate resilient vegetable varieties, simple irrigation infrastructure and rainwater harvesting technologies in a participatory approach. Evaluate the effect of EFB applied raw or pyrolyzed on soil physical, chemical and biological quality, and GHG emissions.
