The project was implemented by the Water Resources Commission (WRC) over a number of years. It sought to contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction through restoration of downstream ecosystems, food systems and livelihoods through reoperation for optimizing the operations of the two dams, with particular reference to flows, in order that a more natural flow pattern will be re-established in the Lower Volta River.In the development and implementation of the project, WRC established partnerships with a number of local and international institutions including CAW as well as a partnership with the project funding agency. The implementation also involved the commissioning of a number of studies by WRC as input into the project’s deliverables.Below is a list of tasks assigned CAW

- Reoptimisation and reoperation study of Akosombo and Kpong dams: Voices from the downstream communities
- Reoptimisation and reoperation study of the Akosombo and Kpong dams in Ghana: Socio-economic Impact or Reoperation Scenario Options on the livelihoods of downstream communities
These tasks were successfully completed and reports produced were submitted to WRC.
