Work Experience and Consultancy
Dr. Isaac Kofi Biney is an adult, lifelong learning and education, community development, entrepreneurship, and distance learning practitioner. He lectures at Department of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies, School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE), and the Head of Accra Learning Centre. Dr. Biney is engaged in capacity building of community members and employees of statutory/private organisations, especially in the areas of development-oriented programmes. He has designed, organised and implemented training workshops, seminars and trainer of trainees’ programmes for a number of organisations.
Dr. Biney served as a research officer and head of human resource management and development unit at National Population Council Secretariat (NPCS) for eight years. He contributed extensively to projects, research, monitoring and evaluation exercises. He developed concept papers, proposals, contributed papers to the population bulletin, books and international
research projects. He made important seminar presentations, and also served on behalf of NPCS on many other committees of partner organisations.
Dr. Biney has worked as a banker in financial institution and practiced as a professional teacher at basic, secondary and tertiary institutions. He has also served as a tutor at University of Ghana Distance Education (UGDE) Programme for five solid years. He again served as a facilitator of a certificate programme jointly organised by University of Ghana and Simon-Fraser University in Canada, dubbed: “Using Education to address Stigmatization and Discrimination of People suffering from HIV and AIDS.” He has served for three (3) years as Teaching Assistant at the then Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), now School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE), College of Education, University of Ghana, Legon. He has expert knowledge in, and an advocate of youth enterprise nurturing, development, promotion and management of micro and small businesses.
Dr. Biney has been a lecturer at SCDE, College of Education, University of Ghana for eight (8) years. He has served as an Assistant Head of Conference, Schools and Special Programmes (CSSP) of SCDE. He is a member of University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). He has served as a Coordinator of MA Adult Education Special and Seminar Paper Presentations at SCDE. He lectures currently at University of Ghana Main and Accra City Campuses in the following undergraduate subject areas:
· Introduction to Adult Education;
· Theories of Adult Learning;
· Principles of Adult Learning;
· Communication in Adult Education.
· Citizenship Education and Governance;
· Working with People in their Communities;
· Community Entry and Mobilisation Techniques;
· Promoting Enterprise and Economic Development.
Dr. Biney also lectures in two Online Masters Programmes on the University of Ghana SAKAI Management System (LMS) Teaching and Learning platform. The programmes are Master of Arts in Distance Education and Electronic Learning (DEEL) and Master of Arts/Master of Philosophy in HIV and AIDS Management. The courses are DEEL 605: Distance Education, Globalisation and Development, and HIVM 609: Community Mobilisation and HIV and AIDS. Dr. Biney lectures a PhD course titled: ADLT 705: Theoretical Perspectives of Adult Education, at Department of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies (AEHRS), SCDE. He has a solid research background and interests in the following areas:

Dr. Biney has over 25 published articles, 4 book chapters, 5 Conference Proceedings, and a book to his credit. He has written six (6) modules in the field of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies (AEHRS) for Distance Education Students in Levels 100, 200 and 300 respectively. He has also developed six (6) PowerPoint Slides, detailed Study Guides and reading materials as well as five (5) Video Recordings of courses in AEHRS.
Since joining University of Ghana, Legon, as a lecturer, Dr. Biney has enjoyed not less than twelve (12) training programmes. The first two were organised by Academic Quality Assurance Unit, University of Ghana. The first training programme was on ‘Effective Teaching Methods and Assessment Procedures’ from January 16th – 20th January, 2012. This one week workshop was organised for newly appointed academic staff for 2011/2012 academic year. The remaining training programmes benefited were organised by School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE).
Dr. Biney has worked as Associate Consultant for Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA). He is currently serving as a consultant to a number of District Assemblies, Corporate Mining Organisations, especially on the implementation of corporate social responsibility programme dubbed: Alternative Livelihood Programmes (ALPs). Dr. Biney is blessed with two daughters, and a son namely, Daniella, Victoria and Victor. The following are some of Dr. Biney’s publications and research contributions.
