This course entails a broad survey of performance techniques, theatre theory and practice, and contextual
studies of theatre in the areas of political and cultural theory from classical civilisations to contemporary times.
It focuses mainly on theories regarding dramatic genres and forms which have evolved over the years in various cultures;
European, Oriental and African. A component of the course would require that students watch and write critiques of performances
that are produced during the course of the semester, analysing through the lenses of theories discussed in class.
