Development Status: At the pre-commercial stage

This is a soilless medium comprising water and local raw materials such as sawdust, rice husks, cocoa peat and compost manure in the production of vegetables, short season crops and some food crops. It is an environmentally friendly, cost-effective method of production and increases crop yield. The controlled media helps in eliminating contamination from soil and soil borne diseases.

Cryptolepis sanguinolenta is an important plant species used in the treatment of malaria. The root system is used by the pharmaceutical industry and herbal clinics to produce herbal decoctions for the treatment of malaria. However, the plant is currently being collected from the wild in non-sustainable ways.
