Fostering inclusiveness and sustainable development in Africa


The School of Social Sciences is organizing the third International conference on the theme “Fostering Inclusiveness and Sustainable Development in Africa”. The chair and organizing committee of the conference is inviting abstract submissions on topical issues under the broad areas of inclusiveness and sustainable development. We particularly invite papers that combine empirical findings with theoretical reflections under the following sub-themes:

1)     Culture, Leadership And Good Governance

2)     Policy and Social Change

3)     Human Capital Development

4)     Economic Growth, Poverty and Inequality

5)     Innovation and Technology

6)     Clean Energy and The Environment

7)     Rural/Urban Development and Migration

8)     Political Participation and Inclusiveness

9)     Ageing, Disability, Social Protection and Social Justice

10)   Gender, Empowerment and Inclusiveness

11)   Children’s Rights, Education and Welfare

12)   Health and Development

13)   Attitudes and Behaviour Change

14)   Financial Inclusion and Development

15)   Decent and Sustainable Employment

16)   Institutional Development

The above themes are by no means exhaustive, other topics relevant to the theme are welcome. We are especially interested in new research that addresses emerging issues related to the central theme.
The conference will include an opening ceremony and there will be parallel sessions.


Instructions for Submitting an Abstract

You are invited to submit an abstract at the conference website  The abstract should not be more than 250 words and should highlight objectives, methodology and findings. Conceptual and theoretical papers will also be accepted. If you wish to be a discussant, kindly indicate this in your submission.

The submission must also contain the Title of the Paper, Name (s), Department(s), Institution(s), Email Address(s) of the corresponding author.

Poster Presentation: Posters are accepted at this conference. Dimensions are 90cm (width) by 200cm (height).

Authors are encouraged to collaborate to form panel sessions. A panel comprises four papers. Submissions for panel presentations should include a summary of 250 words maximum and an abstract for each paper / presenter. The panel organizer will be informed of the decision regarding the panel before individual panel members will be contacted. Faculty members are strongly encouraged to team up with graduate students to form panels.

  • Notice of acceptance of papers: Monday 13th February,  2017
  • Full paper submission for those who wish to be considered for the special issue of journal: March 22, 2017
  • Organized Tour: Friday 7th April, 2017 (optional and subject to a minimum number of interested  participants)
