The University of Ghana Handball Team is a very dynamic team which has been growing from strength to strength over the years. The team participated both at local and international level and won medals.

In 2000, University of Ghana hosted the GUSA games and the team placed 1st and 2nd in both the men and women category. 2002 the KNUST hosted the GUSA games and the team was 3rd and 2nd in the men and women category. 
In 2004 UCC hosted the GUSA games and the team placed 2nd in both the men and women category.2006 GUSA games was hosted by the University of Education, Winneba the team was 2nd and 1st in both men and women category. In 2008, the team placed 2nd in the men category and 1st in the female category at the GUSA Games hosted by the University for Development Studies in Tamale.

The University of Cape Coast hosted the WAUG championship in 2009 and the team placed 4th and 3rd in the male and female division respectively.

In 2010, University of Ghana hosted the GUSA games and both the male and female teams placed 2nd. Also in Kumasi during the GUSA Games in 2012, the male team emerged as GUSA Champions whiles the female team placed 3rd.

With the exposure and experience gained during the GUSA games, the male team participated in the West Africa University Games (WAUG) in Ilorin and was the 1st runner up to Universite d’Abomey-Calavi.

 

Brief History On Handball And Bilateral Games

The team also participated in the annual bilateral games between the University of Ghana and the University of Ibadan in 2007 the women won and the men also won both their home and away matches in 2011/12 Academic year.
The team again won the 2012/2013 bilateral games hosted by the University of Ghana to maintain an unbeatable record.

The Handball Team has witnessed so many prominent social people, who were once students and members of the team. The handball team can boast of names like Ben Ephson (former Goalkeeper, Pollster, Daily Dispatch Editor), Saka Quaye (Regional Director, National Sports Authority, Kumasi),
Nana Osei-Yaw (Fire Service Officer, Accra), Micheal Dzomerku, Lilian Kyei, Abdul-Rahman Iddrissu (Sports Organizer, UG Sports Directorate), Derrick Okpoti Charway (Sports Organizer, Sports Directorate), Mrs Catherine Asare-Frimpong (BILD Coordinator, UG Sports Directorate), Daniel Opare (Swimming Pool Manager, UG Sports Directorate) and many more.

University of Ghana Handball team will continue to stand tall amongst the best with discipline, determination, commitment and hard work.
