As part of the annual week celebration, the Association of Students of Social Work (ASSOW) spearheaded
by Mr. Samuel Adewu and Mr. Jerry Sifa Selassi called for an intellectual battle among social work
institutions in Ghana and this was held on the 23rd of March 2014 at GBC- Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The main intent of organising this impeccable and very educative exercise was to sensitise the general public
about the existence, the history, relevance and the roles of social workers towards the socio-economic
development of the country. This year's theme for the UG-ASSOW week celebration was “Social Workers:
Celebrating Diversity, Promoting Social Development”. This honourable quiz competition organised by
ASSOW and GBC “What do you know” Production team was intellectually contested by two representatives
from University of Ghana Department of Social Work, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and
Technology Department of Sociology and Social Work and School Social Work-Osu respectively.
At the end of the competition of three rounds UG-ASSOW which was represented by Mr. Dickson Boateng
Denkyi (a.k.a Philosopher) and Mr. Ishmael Tagoe carried the day with 25 points leading KNUST-SOWSSA
with a point and a tremendous 24 point difference to SSW, Osu. Among the contestants for KNUSTSOWSSA were Ms. Priscilla Boatenmaa Appiah and Mr. Ebenezer Kudjoe. Also, Osu School of social Work
was fully represented by Ms. Benedicta Owiredu Boateng and Mr. Asante Kissi Alieza.
The atmosphere for the quiz competition was Christmassy, invigorating and stimulating. Captivatingly, the
studio for the quiz competition was filled to fullest capacity with great support from individual tertiary
schools. Lecturers from participation institutions came in their numbers to grace the occasion. Mr. Dan Afari
Yeboah was the quiz master for this noble competition.
