About the Registrar

Mercy Haizel-Ashia is currently the Registrar of the University, a position she has held since 1st August, 2013. She joined the University of Ghana’s administrative system in 1986 and, as a professional University Administrator, she has extensive management experience within the administrative machinery of a tertiary academic institution, having risen through Junior Assistant, Senior Assistant to Deputy Registrar and Directorship offices.

Her duty tours within the University of Ghana include the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the Public Affairs Directorate, the Academic Affairs Directorate, the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies, Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy, the School of Law and Head of the Human Resource and Organizational Development Directorate.

Mercy Haizel-Ashia is a product of the University Primary School in Legon, Achimota Secondary School and the Sixth Form of the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Legon. An alumnus of the University of Ghana, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and an Executive Masters degree in Business Administration (Human Resource Management option). In addition, she holds several management and leadership certificates. She is a fellow of Volta Hall.

With strong leadership competencies grounded in contemporary organization development principles, she has an appreciation of the aspirations and motivations with which academic and administrative employees approach their professions. After 20 years of working as UG Programme Coordinator with students and staff from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Brockport, she has valuable cross-cultural experience.

Mercy Haizel-Ashia is married with three children.
