Vice-Chancellor Receives a Delegation from University of Bonn

A delegation from the University of Bonn, Germany, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, in pursuit of a collaborative research between the University of Ghana and the University of Bonn.

In brief remarks, the Head of the Department of Philosophy and Classics, Prof. Hasskei Majeed, announced that the Department was making a good effort to establish partnerships with reputable international institutions. Consequently, an agreement was signed by the University of Ghana and University of Bonn in 2019. The visit by officials from the University of Bonn was intended to strengthen the collaboration already established. 

Introducing the team from the University of Bonn, Prof. Martin Odei Ajei of the Department of Philosophy and Classics indicated that the team had begun to see “traits of possible research collaborative work” following the organisation of a series of multidisciplinary workshops. “Our Bonn partners are extremely interested in funding some PhD students from the University of Ghana. We are going to sit and discuss what the funding possibilities will be”, Prof. Ajei noted.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, was glad that “there is a group seeking to work with us at the University of Ghana to ensure that as we seek to make our world more efficient with technology, we ensure that the human beings are right at the center of it.” She also expressed gratitude to the Bonn University team for considering scholarship opportunities for PhD students of the University of Ghana.

Prof. Amfo stated that “capacity building is something we continue to do as a university and we are always happy that we can have partners that will support us in that regard”.

A member of the delegation, Prof. Dr. Aimee van Wynsberghe, Institute for Science & Ethics, University of Bonn, assured the meeting that “scholarships have been applied for to bring PhD students from the University of Ghana to come to the University of Bonn to work with us and the Team”.

As part of the delegation’s visit to the University, the Team attended workshops organised by the Ethics Laboratory of the Department of Philosophy and Classics to explore further possible collaborative research opportunities and pathways for funding PhD candidates from the University of Ghana
