Vice-Chancellor Presents Ambulance and Hydraulic Beds to the University Hospital

Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, the Vice-Chancellor on Thursday, August 6, 2020 presented a brand new EMS Mercedes Ambulance and eight hydraulic beds valued at $95,956.25 equivalent to Ghc 532,956.25, to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the University Hospital. The presentation took place at a short ceremony held at the hospital’s premises, Legon.

In brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the equipment were to aid the hospital in the delivery of quality health care to members of the University community and the general public. He further assured of Management’s continuous support to the hospital in all areas of its operations.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Mark Edward Frempong, Director, University Health Services, expressed sincere gratitude to Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu for fulfuling his promise to assist the hospital to acquire a new ambulance when an urgent request was made to him during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. He disclosed that the two ambulances currently serving the hospital are ten (10) and twenty (20) years old respectively. As a result, there were frequent breakdowns thereby hampering effective service delivery. He expressed immense appreciation to the University’s Senior Management for the support and called for further assistance in equipping the hospital. Dr. Frempong assured of the judicious use of the items presented.

Dr. David Owusu Sekyere, Senior Medical Officer and head of the Emergency Unit in a short address, expressed sincere appreciation to the University’s Senior Management for the donation. He was hopeful that the well-equipped ambulance and beds will contribute significantly to improve emergency response at the hospital.

After the ceremonial ribbon cutting by the Vice-Chancellor to present the items, Dr. Owusu Sekyere conducted officials round the facility where he gave a short presentation on the functions of the various equipment in the ambulance.
