Vice-Chancellor Pays Courtesy Call on Nana Kobina Nketsia V

On Monday, 21st February,2022, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo together with officials of the University of Ghana paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Essikado (British Sekondi) Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, at his Palace in the Western Region of Ghana.

The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce herself to the Omanhene following her appointment and induction as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the premier university in Ghana. Professor Nana Aba Amfo used the occasion to seek the Omanhene’s support in ensuring a successful establishment of the University’s Takoradi City Campus.

 

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, on his part lauded the initiative taken by the University and pledged his traditional authority’s support to the project which would be the first of its kind in the Western Region, and noted that the initiative is long overdue.  The Omanhene presented a copy of his book titled “African Culture in Governance and Development: the Ghana Paradigm” to the Vice-Chancellor.

Earlier in the day, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and her officials visited the yet to be opened Takoradi City Campus to assess the progress of ongoing activities, and to interact with staff at the campus.

Dr. Afutu Kotey, Academic Coordinator at the campus, led the delegation on a tour of the facilities which included computer laboratories, a video conference room, e-library and lecture halls. The Vice Chancellor later had an interactive session with the faculty and staff to deliberate on issues affecting their welfare.

 

Prof. Gordon Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Charity Akotia, Chair of the City Campus Implementation Team and Prof. Bernardin Senadza, Acting Principal of the Campus, had a radio session on Connect FM to sell the City Campus idea to the public. They highlighted on the admission processes and programme options that will be on offer at the campus.

The delegation also included Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio, Acting Provost of the College of Education; Dr. Jemima Anderson, member of the City Campus Implementation Team; Mr. Daniel Afari, College Management Accountant and Mr.  Mawufemor Kwadzo, College Facility Manager.
