Vice-Chancellor Pays Courtesy Call on the Director of Passports

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has paid a courtesy call on the Director of Passports to deliberate on the ways the University of Ghana can collaborate with the Passport Office to create shared value.

In brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the University was open to working with the Passport Office and other industry players as it works towards becoming a world-class, research-intensive university that creates value for all. She pointed out that industry could benefit significantly from academia and vice versa. She also noted that meetings such as this would pave the way for such collaborations to occur.

The UG team led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo proposed several areas where the Passport Office could work with the University to create value. These areas include facilitating the processing of passports for members of staff/students who may need to travel for official purposes and solidifying the relationship between the University and its alumni who work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In response to the issues raised by the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Passports, Mr. Louis Kwame Obeng indicated that there are flexible arrangements to facilitate passport processing for emergency travel.  He also noted that his Office was open to the Vice-Chancellor working with the University’s Protocol Unit to overcome any problems associated with the processing of passports for official travel by staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to shed light on the University of Ghana's Digitalisation project and encouraged personnel of the passport office to enroll in short courses offered by the University to advance their careers.

It is anticipated that the cooperation between the two parties will provide the Passport Office a chance to support the University in the near future.

Present at the meeting were Mr. John Boakye-Dankwa, Deputy Director (1); Mr. Paul K. Nana Sei Osei, Deputy Director of Passport; Prof. Samuel Kwasi Dartey-Baah, Director of Office of Institutional Advancement, UG and Dr. Jemima Asabea Anderson, Director of the Pan African Doctoral Academy, UG.
