Students who excelled in various academic disciplines in the 2013/2014 academic year have received awards at the 2015 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony. The awards were in the form of cash prizes, citations and certificates.
Awards were also given to outstanding male and female Sports Personalities as well as best graduating male and female students admitted under the University of Ghana Admissions Policy for Less-Endowed Schools.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Ernest Aryeetey in his welcome address noted that, the awards is a follow-up to the two congregations which were held in July and November 2014, at which students who had gone through the prescribed programmes of teaching and learning were awarded the appropriate diplomas and degrees due them. The Vice Chancellor added that, the awards created another forum where the brightest and the best of the graduating class of 2014 as well as some continuing students are recognized for their outstanding academic achievements.
Professor Aryeetey congratulated the award winners for their sterling achievements which had earned them the awards. He urged them to strive to reach higher heights on the academic ladder.
He also lauded the sponsors of the various awards for supporting the University’s efforts towards the achievement of its mandate. He encouraged other corporate bodies and individuals to emulate the example and consider setting up awards for students in all the disciplines.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor (ASA), Prof S.K Offei, in his introductory remarks said one of the major aims of the university is to create an environment for students to enhance their learning experience.
He thanked the sponsors and encouraged them to continue to support the university and hoped that the relationship between them would be strengthened over the years.

Mr. Frank Adu Jnr., Managing Director, CAL Bank, who spoke on behalf of the sponsors, was full of praise for the high number of female award winners and encouraged them to continue working hard to achieve their dreams. He was optimistic that the future of the country was in the right direction considering that the University of Ghana was producing quality young graduates who were achievers in their own right. He offered a job opportunity to one of the recipients during the ceremony.

Ms. Amanda Aku Ahornam Awadey gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the award winners. She expressed gratitude to the University for setting a special day to recognize the efforts of those who had excelled, and paid glowing tribute also to the sponsors for their benefaction.

Some of the awards were named after specific sponsors and personalities who have made major contributions in their fields of endeavour. Others were named after corporate bodies that have been able to hold their own and gain a competitive edge in the business world.
The University of Ghana received sponsorship for 141 awards from 87 sponsors and were presented to 100 recipients.
