VC Commissions UG's First Instructional Lab

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, as part of her technological vision to enhance productivity in University of Ghana, has commissioned the University’s first Instructional lab at the Balme Library. 

Prof. Amfo, in her speech applauded the management of the University of Ghana Library Systems and the Library Board for the initiative. She noted that there was a need to set up the dedicated Instructional Lab with the sole purpose of assisting library patrons to easily, efficiently, and successfully locate, retrieve, evaluate and use information. Indicating that the resource centre will provide learning opportunities for library users, Prof. Amfo stated, “This will enable students and faculty to use library resources and facilities on their own or with limited assistance from information professionals”.

Prof. Amfo was optimistic that the Instructional Lab will be used for its intended purpose to impart invaluable information and related skills to all including the next generation of academics.

The Acting University Librarian, Mrs. Theodosia Adanu in brief welcome remarks expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the Library Board for their support and contribution towards the establishment of the initiative. She noted that the Instructional Lab was developed for the purpose of providing training in aspects of research to the University Community. 

Mrs. Adanu noted that the Instructional Lab was established to take care of all forms of library instructions on databases, research tools, and other library-related instructions. 

The Instructional lab is a 30-seater networked facility with modern high-speed computers, a computer for the facilitator, a projector, and stable internet.

Giving the vote of thanks, Dr. Antonia Bernadette Donkor, Assistant Librarian, conveyed the library’s appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Chair of the Library Board, Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, Members of the Library Board and all participants for honoring their invitation.
