University of Ghana Student Wins Award in China

A former student of the Chinese Section of the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Ghana, Mr. Ignatius Suglo (now a national service personnel) was among the finalists at the just ended 13thedition of the “Chinese Bridge” competition held in China.

Mr. Suglo who won the local Chinese Bridge competition organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Ghana emerged   as the 1st runner-up for the African continent, earning him a place in the finals. For his prize,  he received a certificate, a trophy and a full scholarship to study for a Masters degree in China.

 

The Chinese bridge competition is a Chinese language and culture competition. This year’s edition was contested by 126 participants from 87 countries in 5 continents. It was a month long competition, spread over five culturally laden historical cities. This gave the contestants an opportunity to experience different aspects of Chinese culture and lifestyle.  The contestants were divided into continents and competed till they got the last man standing for each continent. They were examined on their language proficiency, understanding of Chinese culture, and creativity among others.
