University of Ghana Selected to Host Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow

The University of Ghana has been selected by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme (CADFP) to host an African Diaspora Scholar to work on a collaborative project in dietetics for building faculty capacity in teaching, research, postgraduate training, and mentorship. The Diaspora Fellow, from the Ohio State University, Columbus, USA, will be working with Dr. Freda Intiful of the Department of Dietetics, School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences of the College of Health Sciences, who will lead the Project.

The University of Ghana project is one of 74 such projects, which seek to advance teaching at all levels through a holistic curricular review of dietetic programmes. The project is expected to impact on training of graduate students thereby placing them at par with others from comparable international institutions and ensuring that they mature into global citizens at the end of their training. The project will also foster partnership that will lead to student exchange programmes. Faculty will be engaged in collaborative researches that will generate and contribute to knowledge advancement in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship programme, in its fourth year, is designed to reverse Africa’s brain drain, strengthen capacity at the host institutions, and develop long-term, mutually beneficial collaborations in universities in Africa, United States and Canada. It is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in collaboration with United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) in Nairobi, Kenya, which coordinates the activities of the Advisory Council. A total of 471 African Diaspora Fellowships have been awarded for scholars since the programme’s inception in 2013.
