University of Ghana Opens Book of Condolence for the Late Mr. Kofi Annan

The University of Ghana has opened a Book of Condolence for the Late Mr. Kofi Annan, former Chancellor of the University, (2008-2018), essentially for members of the University community.

The Chairman of Council, Prof. Yaw Twumasi and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu were the first to sign the Book of Condolence, who in separate remarks lauded Mr. Kofi Annan for his service to the nation and at the international level.

Throwing more light on activities that had been put in place to honour the former Chancellor, the Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia noted that, Mr. Kofi Annan, having served the University for a decade, deserved to be celebrated.  Hence, in addition to the Evening of Remembrance which will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 5.00 p.m. at the Great Hall, there will be a Week of Exhibition in his honour at the Balme Library from Monday September 10 to Friday September 14, 2018.  Please click here for the publicity flyer

Other officials who signed the book of condolence were the Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia and the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Prof. Kofi Ohene Agyekum, Dean of the School of Performing Arts, and Dr. Ibrahim Bedi, Director of Internal Audit.  A former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Abena Dolphyne was present at the ceremony and signed the book of condolence.

Meanwhile the Book of Condolence will remain open at the New Council Chamber, Convocation Group of Buildings, Registry, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. each working day till September 7, 2018.

The Vice-Chancellor called on as many members of the University community to sign the Book of Condolence as a sign of respect to the former Chancellor.
