UG Holds November 2015 Congregation Ceremonies

The University of Ghana has held the 2015 November Congregation ceremonies for students who completed various programmes of study at the University. This is the second set of ceremonies for students who completed their studies in the 2014/2015 academic year.

Six ceremonies were held over two days with a total of 5085 students graduating from the four Colleges with degrees and diplomas. The graduands were made up of 4025 undergraduates, 964 graduate students and 96 Diploma students.

For the first time concurrent sessions were held in the morning of Friday, November 13, 2015 and Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Great Hall and the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS).  The November Congregation ceremonies were held for graduate students from the College of Humanities, graduate and undergraduate graduates from the College of Health Science (CHS) and the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS);  graduate and undergraduate students from the College of Education and undergraduate students from the College of Humanities.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey in his address to Congregation highlighted some of the achievements of the University over the past year in the areas of teaching and learning, Financial Aid for Students, Research, Innovation and Development governance, as well as Physical Development.  He also presented some of the activities that took place in the four colleges during the year under review.

He challenged the graduands to go out into the world, and do the very best wherever they find themselves. Prof. Aryeetey urged the new graduates to work hard, dream big, plan ahead and be ethical and honest in all their dealings, so as to achieve success.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Kwame Offei and  Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of the Office of Research and Innovation Prof. John Gyapong represented the Vice-Chancellor at the sessions held at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium.

The two sessions (morning and afternoon) held at the Great Hall were presided over by the Chairman of the University Council, Hon. Justice Dr. Samuel Kofi Date-Bah and Prof. John Meyer Hyde, a member of the University Council respectively.  Mr. John Klinogo, a member of the University Council presided over the sessions held at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium.

The Guest Speakers at the various  ceremonies were; Dr. Rosemary Keatley, Managing Director, Medlab Ghana Ltd.; Ms. Angela Forson, first female Director in  charge of Business and Director responsible for Public Sector and Institutional Banking at Fidelity Bank; Mr. Ernest D. Akore, Lead Consultant at Lokko, Engmann & Associates, and a non-Executive Director of Databank Brokerage Limited and Databank Epack Limited; Mr. C. K. Bruce, Chief Executive Officer of Innovare, and a member of the Advisory Board of the College of Education; Ms. Ethel Cofie, CEO and Founder of EDEL Technology Consulting and Dr. Henry Kerali, World Bank Country Director, Africa Region.

Valedictorians at the ceremonies were: Ms. Henrietta Agyeiwaa Gyebi, (Bachelor of Science in Public Health); Ms. Linda Adika, (MPhil Linguistics); Ms. Ama Kissiwaa Ampadu-Kissi,

(Bachelor of Science Mathematics/Computer Science); Ms. Patience Kpiniong, (MSc Development Finance); Mr. Kwasi Afari Addo-Fening, (Bachelor of Arts, Sociology/Linguistics) and Ms. Wendy Amoako Kwakye, (Bachelor of Arts, Linguistics/Sociology).
