UG Credit Union Inaugurates New Building

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has called on the University of Ghana Co-operative Credit Union Limited to support the University establish new halls of residence to meet the teeming numbers expected to be admitted in the coming years.

The Vice Chancellor made this call at the inauguration of the University of Ghana Co-operative Credit Union Limited’s new building. The edifice, which was constructed by Pel Construction Ltd. began in 2017.  

Prof. Oduro Owusu, alluded to a discussion held with the Minister in Charge of Tertiary Education where same issue came up for discussion.  “The land is available. In three years, our admissions numbers are going to double. This year we admitted eleven thousand, we are expecting that next year and next two years we are expected to admit not less than twenty thousand students” he said.

Professor Oduro Owusu noted only 2,800 students were accommodated this year out of 7400. He therefore urged the Union to collaborate with the University in her bid to find a lasting solution to the accommodation problem on campus. He later congratulated the union and urged them to maintain the building.

Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah who was the guest of honour also congratulated the Union for its ability to stand the test of time. He noted that, the union belongs to the staff of the university and therefore should be able to support the welfare of the staff.
