School of Law Holds Congregation Ceremony

The University of Ghana has held a Congregation ceremony for students of the School of Law who successfully completed their programmes of study in the 2018/2019 academic year. The ceremony presided over by the Chancellor of the University, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse saw a total of 111 students comprising 69 females and 42 males graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu mentioned developments within the University during the academic year highlighting admissions, research grants, progress of the University’s strategic teams, and students’ financial aid among others. While congratulating the graduands, the Vice-Chancellor charged the students to uphold the values of the University – Respect, Commitment, Integrity and Loyalty.

Delivering the guest speaker’s address, Mr. Kimathi Kuenyehia, Managing Partner of Kimathi & Partners, a reputable Law firm in Ghana charged the graduands to uphold the principles of Integrity and inculcate good manners in addition to their professional skills. In recognition of their outstanding performance, he awarded the first class students $500 each. He further awarded the School of Law Library a Book Grant of  $10,000 for the next five years.  He also hinted of establishing a Scholarship Scheme of $1000 annually to support a Law student in cherished memory of the late Prof. Kwame Gyekye, who he said was a pivotal person while he was a student.

Presenting the valedictory address on behalf of the graduands, Mr. Richard Dwamena Boampong, the Overall Best Student congratulated his fellow graduands for successfully completing their programme of study in spite of the numerous challenges and wished them well in their future endeavours..

This ceremony is the first in the series of other congregation ceremonies in the month of July to confer degrees on students who completed their academic work during the 2018/2019 academic year. Other congregation ceremonies are scheduled for July 19 & 20.   Under the University’s calendar of activities, another Congregation ceremony is scheduled for  November, 2019.
