The School of Graduate Studies has organized a two-day thesis writing workshop for Graduate Students at the Cedi Conference Centre at the University of Ghana. A total of 150 graduate students participated on the first day, while 250 participated on the second day.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Kwaku Tano-Debrah, emphasized the importance of preparing and planning well in order to create a solid foundation for the thesis and dissertation writing process. He added that the workshop was designed to introduce basic principles in thesis and dissertation proposal writing and that for students who had already written their proposals, it was an opportunity to revise them. He encouraged the students to participate fully in the sessions.

The topics presented over the two days and resource persons were,, the Essence of Thesis Writing, by Prof. Robert Darko Osei (Vice-Dean of the School of Graduate studies); Ethics In Research, by Mrs. Afia Attrams, (Research Development Officer); Proposal Development: Introduction and Literature Review, jointly delivered by Prof. G.A. Awandare (Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology), Prof. G.K. Adika (Language Centre) and Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo (Department of Linguistics / Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs).
Other topics were Activity Planning /Budgeting, Dr. Fred Dzanku (ISSER); Research Methods I, Prof. Michael Tagoe, (Acting Provost – College of Education); Qualitative Research Methods, Prof. Richard Boateng (Department of Operations and Management Information Systems); Quantitative Research Methods, Dr. Seth Adu-Afarwuah (Department of Nutrition and Food Science); and Mixed Research Method, Dr. Ama Fenny (ISSER). The rest were Experimental Design/ Statistical Planning in Qualitative Research, Dr. E.N.N.Nortey (Department of Statistics), Experimental Design/ Statistical Planning in Quantitative Research, Dr. F Mettle (Department of Statistics); and Questionnaire Designing and Interviewing / Focus Group Discussions, by Prof. Lydia Aziato (Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery) and Prof. Philip Adongo, School of Public Health.
Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions during the workshop.

Earlier, the School Administrator, Mrs. Stella Dovlo welcomed the students to the sessions and introduced the resource persons present as well as staff from the Graduate School. She indicated that the workshop was organized to enhance the skills of graduate students in the thesis and dissertation writing process. She encouraged them to fill the evaluation forms at the end of the workshop to enable the School of Graduate Studies improve on its service delivery.
Ms. Tina Chinenye Anyakee, an MSc in Dietetics student expressed gratitude on behalf of her colleagues to the School of Graduate Studies for organizing the workshop. She was also grateful to the resource persons for the knowledge they shared with participants. Ms. Anyakee said her expectations were met and that she was looking forward to the next workshop in March.
