His Excellency Dmitry Suslov, Russian Ambassador to Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu.

According to His Excellency, since the integration of the Russian language into the Department of Modern Languages, attempts to make the study of the language more attractive and easy to learn have proved futile. His visit was therefore to strengthen the bond between the Russian Government and the University and also to build upon the capacity of Russian Language study in the University, by equipping the department with adequate resources.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the ambassador’s effort and pledged the University’s willingness towards achieving the partnership and cooperation. Prof. Oduro Owusu said he was  to contact him for any assistance in coordinating the partnership.

Prof. Ildiko Csajbok-Twerefou, Head of Department for Modern Languages who accompanied the Ambassador noted that, 6 students of the University of Ghana after having studied the Russian language and gained the required Proficiency, won scholarships for graduate studies in Russia.   The Vice-Chancellor made a suggestion of getting students from other fields especially medical students to learn the Russian language.  Prof. Csajbok-Twerefou in her response said it was possible under a Memorandum of Understanding which could be further explored.

His Excellency Dmitry Suslov, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception.
