Professor Charity S. Akotia Elected as Co-Chair of the Council of National and Regional Representatives of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP)

Professor Charity Sylvia Akotia

Professor Charity Sylvia Akotia, the immediate past Dean of the School of Social Sciences, University of Ghana, has been elected as Co-Chair of the Council of National and Regional Representatives of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) responsible for Zones 2, 3 and 4 of the Association. Her role as Co-Chair is effective from January 1, 2021 and will be for a 4-year term.

The IASP is dedicated to preventing suicide and suicidal behaviour and alleviating its effects. It also provides a forum for academics, mental health professionals, volunteers and suicide survivors.

The research interest of Professor Akotia focuses on suicide and suicide prevention in a cultural context.
