President Launches Inter-University Quiz/Debate Championship, 2017 At University of Ghana

His Excellency The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today launched the Inter-University Quiz Debate at the auditorium of the University of Ghana School of Law.  The theme for the 2017 Championship is: Restoring our Ghanaian Values as Active Citizens.

The President, who described the Constitution as a living document, said that the Constitution does not only guarantee and protect individual freedoms and human rights, but it also ensures that “our nation is governed according to the principles of democratic accountability and the rule of law.”

He called on the participating Universities in the Inter-University Quiz/Debate, Championship, 2017, to go beyond who emerges winner; instead to seek to know for example, “why the Constitution came into force, why it provides guidelines for the functioning of the State, and, why, together, we must help ensure that the three arms of government, the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, live up to their respective charters and act as checks and balances on each other to prevent abuse of power and, thereby, help secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.”
