The Office of Students with Special Needs (OSSN), in partnership with the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST), Nestlé Central and West Africa (CWA) and the Adenta Mountain View Lions Club, has organised a seminar on the topic “Exploring Career Opportunities” for Students with Special Needs.

In her opening remarks, the Coordinator of OSSN, Dr. Efua Mantey Agyire-Tettey, expressed satisfaction with students’ attendance and encouraged them to refute negative claims about persons with disability and their inability to work effectively. Dr. Agyire-Tettey further advocated for the inclusion of persons with disability in the national dialogue of tackling youth unemployment.

Addressing the participants, the Head of Human Resources at Nestlé CWA, Madam Fridah Muchina, disclosed efforts by her organisation to attain Sustainable Development Goal 8 which advocates the provision of employment for persons with disability. She cited targeted programmes such as the ‘Nestlé Needs Youth’ programme which has been designed to enhance inclusivity at Nestlé CWA.

Participating industry partners including SG-SSB, Acentia Energy, Nestlé CWA and Groital Foods mounted desks to facilitate interactions with the students with special needs. The students also had the opportunity to attend a mini workshop on CV writing, Entrepreneurship and mock interviews.

The event was well attended by stakeholders and over a hundred (100) students who described the seminar and its related activities as an ‘eye opener’.
