Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research Receives Millennium Excellence Award

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research has received the prestigious Millennium Excellence Award for Science and Research as the leading biomedical research Institute in Ghana. The award was conferred on the Institute by the Life Patron, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, together with the Board of Governors of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, on 17th July, 2021. 

Prof. Abraham Kwabena Anang, Director of the Institute and Dr. John Kofi Odoom, Head of the Virology Department, received the awards on behalf of the Institute.  

The citation of the award reads: 

The Life Patron, HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II – Asantehene and the illustrious Board of Governors of the Millennium Excellence Foundation are pleased to confer on Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) the coveted Millennium Excellence Award for Science and Research in high recognition of your great service to Ghana as the leading biomedical research Institute.  

Your legendary rise to the defence of the nation in the wake of the corona virus pandemic has awakened the conscience of the nation to the critical role the institution plays for the well-being of all Ghanaians. 

This recognition is to the leadership and the many brave men and women who risk their lives in the frontline on daily basis to protect the rest of us.
