News Release - University of Ghana Student Attacked

NEWS RELEASE
UNIVERSITY OF GHANA STUDENT ATTACKED

 
Management of the University is saddened by the assault of a student along the road leading from the Africa Union hostels to Evandy hostel situated on the University’s Legon campus which occurred on the night of Saturday, May 4, 2019.

The victim, a level 400 student is currently on admission at the 37 Military Hospital. A team of University officials led by the Vice-Chancellor and representatives from the student leadership have visited him at the hospital. He is stable and responding to treatment.
The Ghana Police and the National Security, assisted by the University security are conducting investigations into the incident. A fuller report will issue once investigations are completed and the University receives a report.
Management would like to inform members of the University Community, parents and the general public that a number of safety and security measures have been put in place to enhance security on campus both in the short and long term. Management recognizes the role of students in this endeavour and is working closely with all levels of student leadership to bring this about.
Members of the University Community, employees and the student body are entreated to cooperate with the security agencies and the University security as they undertake investigations to bring the perpetrator (s) of this heinous crime to book.  
Further, members of the community are urged to cooperate with the security agencies in their collective efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment on all campuses of the University by reporting suspicious persons to the University security, and also to be vigilant.
Management is committed to ensure a safe and secured environment for the community to go about their duties and activities.
