New Audit Committee Inaugurated

A five (5)-member Audit Committee has been inaugurated ino office at a brief ceremony.

In her congratulatory message, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo expressed her gratitude to the members for their roles in ensuring that the University runs effectively and is compliant. She extended appreciation to the outgone Audit Committee members for the tremendous work done and committed to work with the newly constituted team.

The Chairman of the Audit Committee, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Director-General, Internal Audit Agency (IAA), in his acceptance speech, thanked members of the Committee for the confidence reposed in him by electing him as the Chair. “We come in to support Management to deliver on your mandate. See us as partners in development and we undertake to support you effectively”, he stated. Dr. Osae also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Committee for the work done for the development of the University.

Presiding over the ceremony, Mr. Nathan Ekow Yankey, Director, Operations, IAA, congratulated the constituted Audit Committee and advised them to work at meeting their mandatory, supervisory and scrutiny roles and responsibilities. Mr. Yankey said, “the Audit Committee is coming to compliment the Council’s work, to ensure good governance of the University, to ensure effective risk management and strengthen the sound internal controls as well as financial management practices of the University to enable the University to achieve its objectives.”

Mr. Abdul Karim Hatsu, Chair of the outgone Audit Committee, thanked Management of the University for the support his team received whilst serving on the Audit Committee. He also expressed appreciation to all his Committee members for their hard-work and wished the new Committee the best. Mr. Karim shared some recommendations with the Audit Committee and urged them to see to the completion of the Risk Management Policy and its implementation.

Earlier, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, warmly welcomed all to the ceremony. Speaking about the outgoing committee, Mrs. Agyei-Mensah said, “the Committee has been effective and efficient and has demonstrated a lot of professionalism in its work”. The Registrar noted that the Committee has implemented various checks and balances which has assisted Management to run the University. “It is our expectation that the new Committee continues to work hard to ensure that the University in all its dealings complies with the provision of the Public Management Finance Act”, stated the Registrar.

Beautiful wooden citations were presented to all outgone members of the Audit Committee as a symbol of appreciation.

The members of the newly formed Audit Committee are Dr. Eric Oduro Osae (Chair); Dr. Mohammed Sani Abdulai; IAA representative; Mr. Amos Amankwah, UG Council representative; Mr. Harold Richardson, Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana representative and Mr. Daniel A. Ameyaw, Senior Assistant Registrar, College of Health Sciences and Secretary to the Committee. The University Council is yet to name a second representative. The Committee’s term of office is for a two-year period, renewable for another two-year term.

Present at this swearing in ceremony were Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development; Prof. Mohammed Abdul Amidu, UGBS; Dr. Samuel Kojo Kwofie, Vice-President UG-UTAG, Vice-President; Ms. Sena Dake; Director, Internal Audit Directorate; Mr. Thomas Kwegyir-Abaidoo, Chief Risk Officer; Mr. Richard Obeng Okrah, former Chair, UG Alumni Association and Mrs. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director, Public Affairs.

Other officials from the Internal Audit Directorate and Internal Audit Agency were also present.
