The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has commissioned a 10-million Ghana cedi multi-purpose building to help meet the Institute’s need for additional spaces to support its continued growth and performance.
The building, known as the ISSER Office Complex and Digital Centre, comprises an office complex, a digital centre or data hub, an ultra-modern library complex, seminar rooms, and a gymnasium.
The building was commissioned by Honourable Joseph Cudjoe, Minister of Public Enterprises, who represented the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He was assisted by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo; Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Institutional Development, Prof. Felix Asante; Provost, College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori and the Director of ISSER, Prof. Peter Quartey.
In a speech read on the Vice-President’s behalf by Honourable Joseph Cudjoe, he commended ISSER’s commitment, since its establishment, to the pursuit of research and human resource development programmes that have an immediate bearing on the problems and the development needs of Ghana. He pointed to how the digital centre and library will aid the training of quality manpower for national development, noting how these provisions demonstrate the importance ISSER places on using its internally generated funds to promote development through research in Ghana.
In addition, the Vice President thanked all individuals who contributed to making the building a reality, particularly Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante and Prof. Peter Quartey during whose respective tenures the project was initiated and completed.
The Vice-Chancellor while congratulating ISSER underscored the importance of the collective efforts and successes of all units in achieving the strategic vision of the University of Ghana. “This edifice does not only enhance the ISSER’s ability to accommodate its growing community of staff, students, alumni, local and international collaborators, but it also demonstrates its preparedness to break new frontiers in research, training, and advocacy,” Prof. Amfo added.
Prof. Felix Asante who is the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development (RID), as well as immediate past Director of ISSER, together with the current Director, Prof. Quartey, in their remarks, acknowledged the
Management of the University, the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD), project contractors - Antarctic Contract Works, as well as the faculty and support staff of ISSER in ensuring the success of the project.
In brief remarks, the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori, congratulated ISSER and highlighted the worth of the facility to the College, saying: “We expect that the building and the facilities will be maintained and that we will be able to squeeze every ounce of utility out of this facility.”
After the commissioning ceremony, the dignitaries and attendees toured the facility. Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments as well as industry and media representatives were also present to witness the event.
