First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo visits University of Ghana Hospital

The First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, visited and donated some items to the University of Ghana Hospital on Wednesday, 16th September, 2020. The items included five (5) beds sets, powdered soap, baby diapers, blankets, bedsheets, patient monitors, thermometer guns, hand sanitizer (20 gallons), nose masks and delivery bowls.

At the event, the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Eric H. Gaisey, gave a brief history of the University Hospital, which was established in 1957 at Achimota initially to cater for students, staff and their dependents but expanded by the middle of 1990 to become a district hospital in response to demands from neighboring communities for medical care.

On behalf of the University Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, expressed profound appreciation to the First Lady for her generous donation. He also expressed deep gratitude to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his able leadership in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic, and pledged that the University will always uphold the values of quality healthcare. He disclosed that the University has plans to construct a pediatric unit and petitioned the government to assist in the construction of the unit.

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Honourable Lydia Seyram Alhassan, commended all health workers at the hospital for their dedicated service to the nation.

The First Lady inspected the Children’s Ward in the company of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mark Eric Frempong (Director of University Health Services), Hon. Sandra Owusu Ahenkorah (Mayor of Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly), Management and staff of the University Hospital, government functionaries and other dignitaries present. She praised the University Hospital for providing quality healthcare and indicated her pleasure at being in a position to offer some help, as quality healthcare is major focus of the Rebecca Foundation.
