Professor V. Eudine Barriteau, GCM, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the West Indies has paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu.

Professor Barriteau said their visit was to discuss partnership with the University especially in the Medical field. She further elaborated that possible collaboration, would result in a win-win situation for both universities with benefits such as scholarships, access to external examiners and affording the exchange of cultures, diversification and exposure.

The delegation briefed the Vice-Chancellor on their earlier interaction with some Heads of department of the Medical School on exchange programmes. The delegation also hinted on how the two universities have a lot in common with respect to  sharing the same founding year which is 1948 and both being originally an affiliate college of the University of London and hence the need to establish healthy ties between sister universities.

The Vice-Chancellor lauded their initiative and noted that one of his visions for the University is to expand the University of Ghana Medical School in order to increase enrolment to over a 100% and he therefore welcomed  any action or policy that would complement this vision. Both parties therefore pledged their commitment towards the realisation of this vision.

Professor Eudine Barriteau was accompanied by Dr. O. Peter Adams, Dean Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Kenneth Connell, Deputy Dean- Preclinical Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences all of the University of the West Indies.
