The Acting Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio, has led a delegation from the University on a visit to the Chief of Barekese, Okofo Amoapem Brenya I. The purpose of the visit was to thank the Chief and people of Barekese for donating 50-acre land to the University of Ghana and to inspect the site.

In his address, Okofo Brenya welcomed the delegation to his town and thanked them for honouring his invitation. He praised the University of Ghana for progress made so far in expanding access to education and making a meaningful impact in the development of the people of Ghana. He disclosed that the location of a University of Ghana Campus within his enclave would provide the impetus in expanding access to education to the citizenry, especially, the indigenes and residents of Barekese. He was hopeful that the initiative would bring development within Barekese, the Ashanti Region, and facilitate teaching and learning for potential students from the Northern and Middle belts of Ghana.

In his submission, Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio, Acting Provost of the College of Education, thanked Okofo Amoapem Brenya I and his people for the kind gesture towards the University. He pointed out that the strategic location of the land would position the University of Ghana closer to prospective students. He also indicated that the donation of the 50-acre land to the University was timely since it was happening at a time when the University had rolled out a plan to expand its operation by creating city campuses. He pledged his support towards the establishment of “a Legon” in Barekese to aid in the development of the area.
