Chair of Council Visits School of Engineering Sciences' Ultramodern Training Centre and Multi-Purpose Workshop

The Chair of the University Council, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo (Rtd.) has visited the site for the construction of an ultramodern training centre for the School of Engineering Sciences and a multi-purpose workshop for Toyota Ghana Company Limited as part of her scheduled tour of the University's Campuses. Her ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo was accompanied by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Development, Prof.  Felix Asante, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah and some Administrative Directors.

The officials were warmly welcomed by the Provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, Prof. Boateng Onwona-Agyeman, who gave a brief background to the project. He further explained how the training centre and workshop will enhance students’ practical experience in the automobile industry, while serving as a testing field for faculty who research on related fields. Prof. Onwona-Agyeman also introduced Mr. Yanaka Kohji, General Manager of Toyota Ghana Company Limited and the project architect, Mr. Ayitey Aryee who were on site to welcome the team.

Mr. Aryee conducted the officials round the site and presented an up-to-date report on work done so far. He explained that the 18-month project which commenced in February 2021, was about 26% complete and was on course to be completed as scheduled. Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo was impressed with the project architecture and the progress of work so far. “This is a bright project and we need more of such”, she noted.

The entire project is situated on a 6-acre piece of land. The Training School, will contain facilities such as a 250-capacity training lecture room, canteen, ICT Centre, office space, library and a practical training centre.

The Toyota Workshop, on the other hand, will consist of administrative offices, a workshop, a technical training area, and a washing bay. There will also be utility facilities and a 1000-capacity car park to support the two buildings as well as a walkway that links the School and Workshop to facilitate easy movement.
