Chair of Council Tours Parts of the University

On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, the Chair of the University Council, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo (Rtd.) accompanied by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Pro- Vice-Chancellor,Research Innovation and Development, Prof.  Felix Asante, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah and some Administrative Directors, began a scheduled tour of the University Campus.

The tour was to afford the Council Chair the opportunity to familiarise herself with the facilities available on the Main Campus of the University.

The drive-through tour began from the Registry, proceeded to the Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, then through the N-Block, Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), School of Law, African Union Hall and the James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall (TF) exit.

The team also visited and inspected the Toyota Ghana and School of Engineering training workshop which is currently under construction on the Botanical Garden-Legon Boundary Road.  Mr. Charles Kofinti and Mr. Ernest Boakye, Director and Deputy Director of the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD) respectively, took turns to serve as tour guides; narrated project backgrounds and provided other relevant information throughout the tour.

The Chair of Council shared some fond memories of her University days. She also asked questions, offered pieces of advice and made some recommendations and suggestions on maintenance, students' safety, ongoing projects, staff accommodation and the safekeeping of the University’s contractual documents.

The team also visited the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, the University of Ghana Medical Centre, four UGEL Halls (Hilla Limann, Alexandar Adum Kwapong, Elizabeth Frances Sey and Jean Nelson Aka Halls), the Sports Directorate and the University Stadium and its environments. Before heading back to the Registry where the tour ended, the team also drove by ‘the almost completed’ Mensah Sarbah Alumni hostel, the Central Cafeteria, the SRC Union Building, the Legon Hall Annex C and the Confucius Institute.

Satisfied with the familiarisation tour, the Chair of Council expressed her appreciation to University officials who were present for the tour and looked forward to the impending tour of the Accra City Campus and the Korle-Bu Campus, scheduled for the latter part of September 2021.
