Centre for Ageing Studies Committee Sworn In

The five member committee sworn in

A five-member team has been sworn in as the Centre for Ageing Studies (CFAS) Committee. The brief ceremony which was chaired and presided over by the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Samuel Agyei–Mensah, was attended by University Officials and staff of the Centre.

Members of the committee include Prof. C. Charles Mate-Kole, Director, CFAS; Rev. Dr. Samuel Ayete-Nyampong, Gerontologist; Dr. Araba Sefa-Dedeh, Clinical Psychologist; Dr. Akye Essuman, Geriatrician, Senior Lecturer, Community Health and Dr. Akosua Agyemang, Lecturer, Social Work/Gerontologist, College of Humanities.

In brief remarks, Prof. Mate-Kole, Director, CFAS, noted that the goal of the Centre is to engage in intensive research to bring to the fore issues affecting the elderly in the society. He added that, public education and annual conferences organized by the Centre are to advocate for the wellbeing of the elderly in Africa and beyond.

Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, Provost and Chair for the ceremony, congratulated the committee and wished them the very best in their service to the Centre as he inaugurated them into office.

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, (ASA)

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, (ASA) Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, also extended her best wishes to the Centre and was hopeful that with the inauguration of the committee, the Centre will continue to expand to drive the research, advocacy and community engagement which will be of great benefit to the society presently and in the future.

Members of the Committee took turns to express their appreciation for the privilege to serve the Centre and pledged their commitment to serve whole heartedly. Rev. Dr. Samuel Ayete-Nyampong, a member of the committee disclosed that the lack of facilities in Africa has been a challenge to helping the aged grow gracefully. He however acknowledged that technological advancements can help bring to null massive abuse and neglect and improve the quality of life of the aged in the society.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Mate-Kole expressed appreciation to the team for accepting the mandate to serve the Centre and wished them well as they promote the vision of the Centre with enthusiasm.

Present at the ceremony were Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Senior Lecturer, Biomedical Engineering; Dr. Collins Badu Agyemang, Lecturer, Psychology Department and Dr. Delali Dovie, Senior Research Fellow, Regional Institute for population Studies (RIPS).
